Cliff Road - Excess Speed Concern |
||
|
Good afternoon,
Some of you may have seen my Facebook post earlier today regarding speed checks on Cliff Road. The timing of the checks was inline with feedback received both to us and the Town Council about the best time to attend. I have previously been earlier in the morning, later in the morning, over the lunch time, mid afternoon and early evening, and always found the results the same.
30mph looks a lot faster than it is, because of the obstacles, road condition, parked cars, etc The only way you can know what speed a vehicle is travelling at is by being behind it at the same speed, or using a speed detection device. We (all of us) often perceive vehicles to be travelling faster than they really are, and if the majority do around 20mph, then 30mph will seem considerably faster. There will of course always be the minority who do speed regardless.
Other feedback has complained about me being visible. However, the Police makes no money from issuing “speeding tickets.” Our incentive is to save lives, and if being highly visible means people slow down, then the job is done. Legally we could hide in a tree in camouflage, but Humberside Policy is that we are a deterrent and in order to do that we should be highly visible.
I am more than happy to receive suggestions about better times to come, and furthermore, I am happy for residents to stand with me and see the difference between perception and reality.
Please feel free to reply to this message, and I will do my best to answer your questions.
Kind regards
Jonathan
